Taking Inventory, Thinking Holidays 10 08 02

Monday, August 02, 2010

From my good friend and fellow seller, Lucyloo of the fab shop, Designed by Lucinda, some "Month Of August Words of Wisdom" for every shopkeeper out there.

With some good luck and some heads-up marketing on your part, this year's Holiday Rush will be a great one for you and your shop ... and perhaps to begin only a month or so from right ... NOW!

1.  Take a quick inventory in your shop ... make sure that you have in your shop what you *think* you have in the shop.

2.  Count your stock, your mailers, boxes, and envelopes. Order now any of those items that you know you 'always need'. If it turns out that you have extra, it won't matter because you always need them, you always use them.

3. Start looking for store coupons, online newsletters so you'll be certain to get notice about any sales on any items you'll need.

4. And for you jewelers, don't go buying 1000 headpins *right now* when you already have 400 in stock ... UNLESS you are certain you will need 1000.

5. Do you have all the shipping/packaging you'll need? Boxes, tissue, ribbon?

6. Business cards? Is it time for a make-over/clean-up? You'll have a large supply with you at all times between now and the holidays, right? So get them designed and get them printed!

7. Count your stock again. Make certain you *know* what you have. This way you'll be able to save your $$ for the stuff you'll honestly need.

On the up-side, it's not time yet to panic: August is a fantastically slow month all around - so you will have time to take that inventory now and see where you are.

This has been a Public Service Announcement brought to you by the lovely Cindy of Designed By Lucinda ... and moi.

Love,
xo Karen
